About Pedro's Pride Fashions
Travel down a certain dirt road in North Idaho, about a quarter-mile past the dead end. There, on the secluded, scenic shore of beautiful Lake Pend Orielle, you will find a herd of Alpacas. These spiritual animals, ranging in natural colors from pure white, to fawn, brown, gray and black, produce a luxury fiber, treasured around the world for its light weight, warmth and unbelievable softness. This is Pedro's Pride Ranch. Continue beyond the barn and you will find an artist's studio, sometimes cluttered with skeins of natural yarns being knit or woven into wonderful designs.
There, in that studio, is where Pedro's Pride Fashions was born. It grew from the love of and experience with these fantastic creatures and the lovely fiber they produce.
Today, the business still holds to it fundamental values that luxury can be available to all of us and everyone deserves the highest quality possible. Pedro's Pride Fashions continues to design and offer one-of-a-kind artistic fashions, but also imports gorgeous Alpaca, silk and pima cotton clothing and accessories from Peru.
Alpacas are native to the high Andes Mountains of South America and are an important part of the culture and history. As such, no one knows how to bring out the magic of this wonderful fiber better than the people of Peru. Pedro's Pride imported garments and accessories are carefully knit and woven by Peruvians whose lives are improved through this positive trade. Our buyers constantly work with them to find the latest, most luxurious products for Pedro's Pride Fashions. The quality and the low prices are passed on to you, but you don't have to tell your friends how little you paid for such luxury.
About Alpaca Fiber and Yarn
Fiber of the Gods
Alpaca is one of the world's finest fibers. It is as soft as Cashmere, never itchy and since there is no oil or lanolin (like sheep wool), it is considered hypo-allergenic--safe even for a sensitive baby's skin. In the center of the thin, smooth hairs is a tiny hollow air pocket which creates a thermal effect -- so, it is warmer than wool, yet breathes so you are not over-heated. It is as light as silk. And, Alpaca fibers spin into one of the strongest luxury yarns found anywhere. No wonder it is called "The Fiber of the Gods."
Baby Alpaca is yarn spun from the young Alpacas first shearing. The baby's fiber is the finest it will be during its entire life and this exceptionally high quality, wonderfully soft yarn is pure luxury and one of the most sought after choices for yarns and thread world wide.
Alpacas are sheared annually (similar to sheep and goats) and the animals are not harmed during this fiber harvest.
